OVCRE conducts Training on the Collection and Analysis of Sex-Disaggregated Data and Gender Statistics for UPV employees
The Committee on Professional Development and General Welfare under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension organized a training on the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data and gender statistics last October 28, 2024 at GCEB Training Rooms, UPV City Campus, Iloilo City.
Dr. Mary Grace Sedanza, chair of the committee, welcomed the participants and gave an overview of the training. She said that the committee is working on specializing in various trainings, workshops and programs that are adaptive to the needs of the employees.
Dr. Alice Prieto-Carolino, CAS Secretary and faculty member of the Division of Social Sciences, served as the resource speaker for the training. The activity started with a workshop on how the participants see and interpret research data using a gender lens. This was followed by a discussion on gender statistics, its importance, how to collect and analyze it and how to gather sex-disaggregated data. The participants were able to integrate what they have done in the workshop during the discussion.
During the afternoon session, the participants were divided according to their sex as part of the workshop. In their presentation they compared the differences on how men and women spend their everyday lives. This was then integrated into the lecture. The discussion concluded with the key takeaways from the participants in which they said that generating and communicating gender statistics is essential in terms of policy making and crafting future projects that are inclusive and gender neutral.
Ms. Kezzie Lyn B. Hilado, acting director of the Gender and Development Program Office and also a committee member, thanked everyone who participated in the training as well as encouraged them to join their future activities.
This is the first leg of “Empowering UPV Employees through Gender-responsive Skills Training and Interventions”. This will be followed by a training on food processing (fish deboning) and communication skills training on November 11, 2024 and October 6 & 13, 2024, respectively.
