A two-day Research Proposal Writing Workshop was conducted for faculty members and Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) last September 12-13, 2024 at the Conference Room, New Administration Building, UP Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo. 

VCRE Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap welcomed the participants. During the overview of the workshop, she emphasized the importance of fully equipping the young faculty and REPS with the skills to engage in research and to secure research funding. Furthermore, VCRE Yap highlighted the creation of research and creative groups and labs to foster mentorships among faculty members and REPS that will amplify research and creative work outputs of the university.

OVCRE invited speakers who are adept in making research proposals for both in-house and external funding sources. Dr. Liberty Espectato of CFOS-IFPDS commenced the discussion on how to come up with a research title and to formulate objectives. She also delved into the importance of identifying the significance of the project. In the afternoon, Dr. Mary Jane A. Amar of CFOS-IA talked about the processes of doing literature review and how to properly cite references.

On the second day, the research design and methodology was discussed by Dr. Rosalie Arcala-Hall of CAS-SocSci and in the afternoon, Dr. Iris Ann G. Borlongan of CFOS-IA discussed the step by step process of making the line item budget and the project work plan.

In each discussion, participants were required to come up with their own proposals. Their outputs were presented in the group and critiqued by the respective resource speakers thereafter.  

As an annual workshop, the OVCRE continues to capacitate researchers and creatives of the university to engage in producing valuable research outputs that are aligned with the research thrust of the university and will be of great help to the stakeholders.
