The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) organized a training workshop on Line-Item Budget (LIB) Preparation last March 30, 2023 at the New Administration Building Conference Room with Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols as the resource speaker.
It was attended by faculty-researchers and researchers coming from different colleges and units of the university. Dr. Ferriols discussed the components of LIBs as well as the guidelines of different research grant windows that can be availed by our researchers. He said that experience is truly the best teacher in doing LIBs.
“Creating a good LIB will ensure smoother transactions when we implement our research projects and based on experience, it is truly a blessing if you have good mentors in the field to guide you,” he added.
The training-workshop aims to equip budding researchers with skills in preparing their LIB in accordance with funding agency guidelines and in a manner that will give them a better chance of accessing both in-house and external fundings.
One of the participants, Prof. Julie Prescott from the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences said that they are truly grateful for the opportunity given by the OVCRE to be part of this training-workshop.
“I hope UPV could help identify non-science budget sources for us in the humanities and the social sciences.” she added.
The OVCRE continues to craft training-workshops that could further enhance the capacity of researchers in accessing research grants, may it be in-house or external funds.
