BPSU benchmarks UPV’s best practices in research, extension, technology transfer and entrepreneurship

Bataan Peninsula State University visited UPV for a benchmarking activity focused on research, extension, technology transfer and entrepreneurship. This happened last October 14-15, 2024, in Miagao and Iloilo City campuses, respectively.
The delegation had a courtesy meeting with UPV Chancellor Dr. Clement C. Camposano. Chancellor Camposano presented the research thrusts of the university with a comprehensive overview of UPV as a research university. They also discussed possible future partnerships; they were joined by the UPV Regional Research Center Director, Dr Mary Grace C. Sedanza.
The group visited the research facility of the university, the UPV Regional Research Center building, giving way for the housed-units to present their respective agenda. Representatives from these offices were Ms. Christine Faith G. Germinal of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), Ms. Claire Juanico of the Philippine Genome Center Visayas (PGC-Visayas) and Mr. Jose Marie Eslopor of the RRC.
They also toured around the laboratories that houses state of the art equipment of the university. After which, they went to the Coastline 5023: Fisheries Technology Business Incubator (FTBI) building and were welcomed by Ms. Milyn Leghid, project leader of UPV FTBI. They exchanged ideas on how to handle the transfer of technologies from a research output into a commercialized product.
On the second day, they visited UPV Iloilo City campus and met with the supervised units of the OVCRE, namely: the Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod (OCEP) represented by their director, Asst. Prof. Fredizel G. De Leon; Gender and Development Office with Ms. Dana Lee Durana and Ms. Joanne Hinayan; Sentro ng Wikang Filipino represented by their coordinator, Asst. Prof. Jonevee B. Amparo; and Center for West Visayan Studies represented by Mr. Sashah Dioso. Each office had prepared a short presentation encompassing an overview of activities conducted by their respective offices. This was also followed by a tour to the GDP Building and the UPV OICA Museum.
The BPSU delegation had a chance to raise questions for a productive discussion with UPV representatives; it has opened doors for future partnerships. With these, UPV is more than willing to help capacitate other HEIs and SUCs and collaborate with them in conducting research and extension activities, to expand the university’s networks and partnerships in attaining collective and sustainable development.
