OVCRE extends training sessions on Enhancing Effective Communication Skills and Connections to UPV Employees
The Committee on Employees Welfare and Development of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) held Communication Skills Training for UPV Employees at GCEB Training Rooms, UPV Iloilo City Campus on December 9, 2024.
UPV employees from the different departments and units of the university registered for the activity. The activity’s objectives are to offer techniques on enhancing communication skills and improving healthy connections among work colleagues to maintain smooth transactions and effective provisions of services.
Ms. Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog, Information and Publications Office (IPO) Director served as the resource speaker of the said training.
Acting VCRE, Dr Iris Ann G. Borlongan, welcomed the attendees and she emphasized the importance of effective communication skills in the workplace. “The OVCRE will continue to craft different training and workshops like this for the UPV Employees. It will be spearheaded by the Committee on Personnel Welfare and Development of the office, the goal is to continue to capacitate our personnel with skills for professional and lifelong use”, Dr. Borlongan added.
During the training, the resource speaker, Ms. Mabilog, emphasized more on strengthening relationships in the workplace through effective communication. She provided tips on how to handle different situations in the workplace where communication mishaps often occur. The participants had opportunities to ask situational questions and possible interventions and the resource speaker addressed these.
The training-workshop ended with a synthesis from Mr. Sashah Dioso of the Center for West Visayan Studies and member of the welfare and development committee and a closing message from Dr. Mary Grace Sedanza, RRC Director and Chairperson of the committee, thanking all the participants and looking forward to more training and workshops in the future with more collaborators from various colleges and institutes of the university.
