The University of the Philippines Visayas joined the festivities of the Regional Science and Technology Week at the University of Antique (UA), Sibalom, Antique last August 22-24, 2024.

A culmination of science, technology and innovation, RSTW 2024 featured various research outputs, technologies and innovations in the blue and green economy as well as smart solutions which were geared towards a more sustainable and resilient future. 

UP Visayas showcased different technologies and innovations under its arm in the Science and Technology (S&T) exhibit at Paghi-UsA Hall, UA. Among the featured UPV technologies and innovations were Juan Algae Paste, Mussel Nursery and Hatchery Technology, Depuration Technology for Mussels and other Bivalves, Spawning and Hatchery Techniques for Blood Cockles, Low-salt Fermented Mussel Sauce, Tuna Jerky and many others. Technologies at stake under TTBDO were also presented during the exhibit. These exhibits were ought to inspire younger generations to pursue careers in science and technology.

Technology innovators, researchers and staff of the university were present during the exhibit, Ms. Soledad Garibay and Ms. Roda Capindig for Juan Algae Paste; Ms. Rose T. Mueda for the Mussel Depuration technology and Tuna Jerky; and researchers and staff from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and Philippine Genome Center Visayas. The delegation was headed by Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap.

UP Visayas continues to collaborate, innovate and inspire young generations of researchers to pursue science and further enhance the research culture in the country. Together with DOST, the university pursues more research activities to be translated into viable technologies that could ultimately benefit various stakeholders.
