UPV RRC pushes renewable and sustainable energy solutions; activates 54kW Solar PV Grid-Tie System

UPV RRC pushes renewable and sustainable energy solutions; activates 54kW Solar PV Grid-Tie System

As part of its commitment to renewable and sustainable energy solutions, the University of the Philippines Visayas Regional Research Center (UPV RRC) invested and installed the largest and first grid-tie solar PV system. This is among the Top Tier 1 of the Bloomberg-rated solar panels, it signifies that the product is high-quality, cost-saving and reliable to operate for years.

The system was turned over and activated on October 8, 2024 at the UPV RRC Building, which was attended by university officials, partners, and stakeholders.

Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap graced the event and welcomed the guests. She emphasized the essentials of solar panels installed in UPV RRC, as a sustainable and renewable energy source in addition to reducing carbon footprints can lessen the university’s electrical bills in the long run.

For the overview of the RRC’s Solar PV System Project, Dr. Mary Grace C. Sedanza, UPV RRC Director delved into details the benefits and impacts of the panels, and how these can significantly affect the financial aspect of the energy consumptions of the RRC building as it houses four research facilities: RRC, PGC, TTBDO, and SEARDAC.

Present during the ceremony was Engr. Barend N. Luger, President of SunSolar NRG Services and contractor of the installed solar panels. He personally turned over the milestone to UPV, represented by Chancellor Dr. Clement C. Camposano and the rest of the UPV Officials present.

Several partners and stakeholders were in attendance; with their representatives who individually expressed their sentiments on the project. Representing the local government unit of Miagao was Mr. Arli John Nim, Mayor’s Executive Assistant; Ms. Maria Cristina Cabalhin, Vice President Marketing and Customer Care and Ms. Maria Theresa Dano, Assistant Manager, Key Account of MORE POWER Iloilo; and Engr. GC June N. Garanchon, TSD Manager, ILECO 1. They have given full support to UPV’s investment in renewable energy technology and wished to inspire more institutions to do the same to promote clean energy and innovation.

This endeavor is a huge step towards integrating renewable energy technologies to cater UPV facilities which are currently powered by the local electricity grid. Installation and utilization of cost-effective, green, and sustainable energy sources is beneficial to the environment. This is a remarkable milestone for the institution to be in the forefront of sustainable, affordable, and clean energy in the region.
